Saint John Baptist Church will partner with the Columbia (SC) Chapter, The Links and SC Thrive
to host a
"Day of Health Resources & Information for Seniors (50+) on Medicare enrollment.
Saturday, November 17, 2018-10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Saint John Baptist Church
3404 West Beltline Boulevard
Columbia, SC 29203

This FREE event is open to everyone who wants to learn more about Medicare plans for themselves and/or their parents. Please come so many of our seniors don't know where to go or whom to ask about their health care plan options - this is their opportunity to do so, from people they can trust.

Health care providers will be hand to answer questions:

  1. How can I qualify for Medicaid to obtain physical exams, prescription drugs, medical services, laboratory services, transportation services?

  2.  What assistance can Healthy Connections Prime provide me?  This program offers better care by making it easier for seniors to get all their Medicare, Medicaid and Part D services from a health plan that they choose, better value through a care team and a care manager that works directly with them and their doctors and better health through benefits that can assist them in their lives.

  3.  How can I obtain tax refunds and work supports for which I qualify, but could not apply for due to lack of knowledge or ability to navigate the complex application procedures?

  4.  What programs are available to me to pay part or all of a hospital bill from an inpatient procedure.

  5.  How do I qualify for the Medicare Savings Program that is designed to help cover the cost of Medicare premiums? Some programs pay for the Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Hospital Insurance) deductible, coinsurance and copayments if you meet certain conditions.

  6.  How do I qualify for Medicare Rx Extra Help? Medicare Rx Extra Help or Low-Income Subsidy (LIS) pays for Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.

  7.  How do I qualify for Welvista? Welvista is an SC Thrive nonprofit partner that provides prescription drugs to qualifying individuals without healthcare coverage. Welvista recipients can get their prescriptions filled for no cost.

  8.  Find out why you should enroll in Medicare Part A if you Have VA Benefits.

These are questions that many of our seniors don't know to ask, and as a result often don't get access to the health care coverage they qualify for.

The Links Incorporated is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The Links established the Health and Human Services initiative in response to the chronic health disparities that persist in black communities and result in the decreased life expectancy of African Americans and other people of African ancestry.

SC Thrive is a statewide non-profit organization offering solutions to South Carolinians in need of accessing resources but facing a multitude of barriers. SC Thrive will lead the conversation on access to healthcare, food insecurity resources, and community mental health. Local healthcare organizations will be onsite sharing valuable tools and medical information leading to access to care and local community needs assessments.

**Remember open enrollment ends December 7th 2018.
